PYTHON SEBAE

This python was found on the main road along Nisela Safs. It was probably hit by a passing motor vehicle making it one of many unfortunate road kills.
The African rock python (python sebae) is Africa's largest snake, growing up to 5metres in length. It eats mammals (yes, including impalas) and birds.
Snakes which have been unfortunately killed are not thrown away but are preserved for educational purposes. School groups that visit Nisela have the opportunity of viewing these serpants at close range and therefore getting to know more about them.

A message from Nisela

You do not have to kill snakes as they are a very important part of the whole ecosystem.
It is a rule at Nisela Safaris that nobody is allowed to kill anything including snakes and spiders.
The other unfortunate problem we have with regards to our wildlife is the number of road kills we have every week.
Motorists are supposed to travel at 60kmph but ignore this and travel at speeds of up to 120kmph killing anything which happens to be crossing the road from tortoises to warthogs to snakes.
This could easily be avoided if people obeyed the speed limit and took an interest in the dwindling wildlife around them.
