History
In the late 1950s founder member, Geoff Sacke (in photo) and a g
roup of concerned people started the SSPCA (Swaziland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). After a name change to PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals), a resident veterinarian travelled the country in a converted van holding clinics, which nearly bankrupted the society. In the early 1960s it became the Swaziland Animal Welfare Society.
In 1967 one acre of land was bought for E500 and twelve kennels were built, which still stand today.
In the early 1980s a group of volunteers started working from their own houses in Manzini and in 2000 an office was established with ten welfare kennels.
